We set off from the car park at the Men's shed and headed to the Margate Tramway Track. Ahead lay hills and valleys, views and forest, limbos and lost souls.

 

On Van Morey Road the group split. Into those who were to tackle the hill and those who would skirt around the base and meet up a bit later.

Climbers

The climbers set off.

It was quite steep but not far, and the views were worth it.

Not sure about this little one. A lily? Those are not its leaves. It did not appear to have any leaves at this stage

And then there's this one...

Sleeping Beauty looking quite composed on the horizon.

 
And then the treacherous downhill section, safely navigated by all, with the help of some obliging bracken stems.

To find the rest of the group waiting for us to set off on the next stage. Via Barretta.

Some productive land.

 To find ourselves on Channel Highway via a limbo.

 Until we picked up the Tramway Track again for our return.

We met on Jetty Road at South Arm, with a lovely view of kunanyi Mt Wellington, and the Alum Cliffs

 

 

 

 

A des res for you Tom!

 

The first section of track winds through wooded vegetation between the shore and residences, with views across River Derwent

With a bit of a drop onto small beaches or rock ledges with birds resting or feeding

 

Descended to Fort Beach just where it touches Blessington Street with a small parking area

Another des res.

And onto Pot Beach...

There is a war memorial and firing range in these parts

 

 

 

Lots of interesting rock formations, and a couple of snakes at the end of the beach
