Shag Bay

 Shag Bay

Last walked in 2016

We met in Geilston Bay, then crossed the creek onto Geilston Bay Road and made our way to the start of the Shag Bay Track.

The start of the track

Keeping to the shore side of the reserve

Looking across to Nyrsar ("the zinc works") with Mount Dromedary in the central  background, Mount Faulkner to the left.

We have made it down the rocky slope into the bay with its remnants of a previous recycling industry

Yay!

Boilers on a boiler?

Heading to the bridge to take us to the other side of the bay and up the other side.

Looking back on the old boiler and how it used to be

Government House in the distance

The zinc works dominates the western shore of the River Derwent.

At the top

Lolly break (one of many today!)

Bowen Bridge to our north

A shelter in the old style.

The return trip

Made it down the rocks and back to the little bridge.

Another 'then and now'

The quarry, history unknown.

Scrambling up the rocky slope

Showing the hill and pylon, where we have been today

There were 14 Ramblers. Lunch was at Risdon Brook Hotel
