Sherwood Hill Wednesday 29th August 2018

Sherwood Hill Wednesday 29th August 2018

A bush walk, up a steep and rocky track through tall trees and with puddles underfoot. Then a wander back through shrubs in flower.

We assembled for a group photo.

Off we go

The entrance to Sherwood Hill Conservation area.

Big trees!

Misty views

The track, at one of its calmer sections.

Some of the puddles were quite large...

and agility was required

Thirsty work.

Still going up

To a pond where we search for the turn off. Ponds like this were created after the 1967 bushfires to assist firefighters.

And set off into the wildflower section of the walk

Still misty but some sun coming through in places

Then return downhill

A good walk, challenging in places,  but the weather was perfect for walking.

So...to lunch, the honeycomb waffles! Spectacular! and then there were these.

A map

and another map...showing the error made during reconnaissance a couple of months ago

Cornelian Bay Wednesday 22nd August 2018

Cornelian Bay Wednesday 22nd August 2018

As we assembled, in chilly and breezy conditions, Collins Cap did a reasonable impersonation of a volcano.

A brisk walk uphill warmed us up.

Views from, and at, the point

Government House (not our lunch venue)

Boat houses (30)

Tasman Bridge

Obligatory wave from Jay.

Looking across Cornelian Bay as we make our way towards the boat houses.

Pied Oystercatcher

   Grebes and Coots
 Cormorants

Looking back the way we have come.

 Behind the boat sheds

Pardalotes nest in these holes in the sandstone

A few washed up individuals

An old boat launching contraption which has seen better days

Continuing around the coast towards the bridge.

The Spirit of Hobart taking  historic harbour cruise

Mount Direction and Gunners Quoin  behind Selfs Point fuel storage.

Remains of the floating bridge (pre dated the Tasman Bridge) in the foreground

Tas has the bridge named after him

After a circuit around the perimeter of Government House and taking paths through Queen's Domain we were running a bit late so we descended to the Royal Botanical Gardens as a way back to our homeward track

Some chose the sealed bike track for speed and ease...

Others chose the shrubbery and got a bit distracted by an unusual eucalypt. Leaves said cordata, but the trunk didn't.

Back at the parking area we were intrigued by this collection of cars in a driveway.

Map (incomplete but at least it agreed to be uploaded this time)
