Directions and hints

 

 There is a parking spot beside the road opposite the service station. Cross the road and go up Hilton street, find the alley way through to Chippendale Street, turn right and at the end you will come to the reserve. Turn left and walk up through the reserve to the top. There is a wide track that takes you northwards to great views. Do a loop and return to the toilet block then make your way down the middle of the park to Main Road. Turn left and cross the road into Austins ferry Road. Go clockwise through Weston Park and Shoobridge Park before following the railway line back to the parked cars.

Directions and hints

 

 Take the Pipeline track towards Fern Tree, cross the road and go through the playground and behind the church. At the junction either continue along the contours (easier, take the right hand option over the bridge) or uphill (to find Silver Falls Track) at the junction go right.

Either way you come to Pillinger Drive and Bracken Lane. Go down Bracken Lane, onto the zig zag bike track and back to Halls Saddle.

Directions and hints

Go clockwise around the park, cross the bridge and continue beside the river. At the top of an incline look for a lookout spot on the right and shortly after it a flight of steep steps down to the Esplanade. Go all the way along the Esplanade and up the ramp to the main road, cross it at Officer St and go up here to the town centre. Make your way through Willow Court and George Street to find the track beside Lachlan River which will take you back to Tynwald Park.

 

 

 

 

 

Brinktop Track

Directions and hints

 

 From the car park you can go down to the weir for a look and return on a lower path, this path will then return and take you to the Richmond Bridge.

Cross the bridge and go up Brinktop Road to the junction with Morgan St. The track gate is here and the track goes inside the fence all the way up to a reserve at the top. You cross the minor road and do a clockwise circuit of the reserve before returning the same way, downhill, left at the bridge and back to the car park.

Turn off South Arm Highway and drive to the parking area at the end.

Directions and hints

Go through the dunes to the beach and turn right.

Walk along the beach to the ramp, take either of the tracks towards the Goat Bluff Lookout.

Return by either track. NB, the track near the road is easier.

Directions and hints

Walk up Montagu Bay Road and Loinah Road, go behind the Clarence Aquatic Centre and cross the bridge over the Highway.

Bear right and up the grassed area beside the playing field into the bush. You will come to a footpath, turn right and follow the path all the way around the hill.

There are some steep sections. There is an option to cut through to Ryeland Court and Loatta Road to avoid an uphill section.

Turn right when you come to the point where you entered the reserve and go back over the bridge etc.

Directions and hints

Start by going down the main Scarborough Fire Trail, turn right to go around the ponds. Connect back to Coffee Creek Trail and continue as far as you can.

Once you reach the road, turn left uphill on Howden Fire Trail. There is a nature loop to the right which brings you back to Howden Fire Trail. Cross it to continue or turn right and then you can take any left turn or walk to the top to make your way back to the start.

Directions and hints

Make your way through the bush to the Sports Centre. Just past it is a wetlands boardwalk that takes you to the highway.

Cross over onto Doody’s Hill Road and there is another section of walking track beside the highway. You can go through Sacred heart School to find the next section of walking track , or go behind Dr Sawfish. Continue along this bush section to an open space and the finish at an engineering works. Return the same way.

Take the wide path around the bay, it continues around Rosny Point to Montagu Bay. Go up Montagu Bay rd to number 15 and you will see an entry onto the hill. Go anticlockwise until you come to a gravel track leading downhill to a path, turn right and at the end of the path find flights of steps going down to the bowling club. Make your way back to the cars.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


Two Rivers Walk (Risdon Vale)

Directions and hints

 

The path curves away from the road. Follow it over a small bridge and take the left fork. Keep the houses on your right and Grass Tree Rivulet on your left. Follow behind the houses.

(At one point the track becomes rocky and steep but can be avoided by going via Magnolia Road and onto Sycamore Road.)

After 2km the track crosses Risdon Vale Creek. If there is too much water stay on the right hand side.

There is a clear path beside the creek back to the start

Blessington Track

Directions and hints

Walk up Jetty Road, past the toilets, keeping left to avoid the beach.

The track follows the coast, it goes between the houses and cliff through a coastal reserve to Pot Bay Beach.

Continue up and around the Cape Deliverance Military Base to another beach with good views of Iron Pot Lighthouse.

Return the same way, making sure to look for the track back onto Pot Bay Beach which is sometimes obscured by bushes.

Directions and hints

Walk down the Pipeline Track (towards Waterworks) to McDermot's Farm. Turn right and follow the fire trail until it starts to go downhill, on the right is a pile of brush and a cleared bit like parking, you can find an uphill narrow track going up, over a fallen tree. Continue, looking up to the right till you see the cave, make your way up the slope.  To return come down the slope and go to the right until you come to a bitumen road going uphill. At Ridgeway Road go to the right, over a low barrier and then left up a rugged track. Keep following this, bearing right at the top and the downhill trail will bring you back to McGregors’s Farm. Left turn and easy walk back to the start.

Directions and hints

 Turn right on the beach and at the southern end you will find some fairly steep steps. At the top the walk levels out. Take the detour to the point and then continue until you reach steps down to Mickeys Beach. Come back up the steps and take the vehicle track to the road. At the road turn right and walk to the corner where you will see the entrance to the Nature Reserve. The path through here takes you back to the road and beach.

Park in the school grounds, or roadside.

Cross the playing fields diagonally, keeping to the left of the tree. Pass through a gate and turn right along the track beside the Rivulet. Turn left and right to keep the Rivulet on your left. Further on take a left over a small rock bridge and cross Goodwin’s Road at the crossing. Continue until you come out on Meehan Road. Go left, then left into Dart Lane, left into Emerald Drive and back onto Goodwin’s Road. Return along the Rivulet but this time bear left and enter the school grounds on your right to walk in front to the buildings and back to the cars.

Do a loop of Cascade Garden especially in autumn. It is often possible to go up the steps behind the toilet block and do a loop above the gardens.

After this follow the Rivulet downstream via Degraves St. the Female Factory and into  Hobart Linear Park. At one point there is a left hand option to go up and over a hill, returning to join the original track at South Hobart School. The track will now take you as far as Molle St via McKellar St and the Korean Memorial. At Molle St you can get coffee at Hamlet before returning.

Go down to the start of the track past the sign. Continue gently downhill until you reach the main Fire Trail. You can cross this and take a small loop back onto itself, or simply go up the fire trail and follow it back uphill. You will come to a gate onto Mount Nelson Road and so to the Signal Station.

Directions and hints

Take the Truganini Track until you reach a right hand uphill turn off. Take this and go around the hillside until you come to the road. Go up the road to the Dorney House for a look around and to get the best views of the City.

Return the same way or take Smugglers Way, which is a bit steep in parts and slippery after rain. There is a signed entrance to the track on the road which you came up.

Hints and directions

 

Park in the sports oval and go around the outside, keeping left.

You will come to Racecourse Flats and go around as far as a Y shaped junction.

Go left between the houses to leave the Flats and then right on Bayview St.

Enter the beach at any of the lefthand access points and walk back towards Lauderdale. Leave on the ramp by the old jetty ruins.

Go along the canal and turn left onto the Highway.

The end is two blocks along.

Corner Ridgeway Road and Chimney Pot Hill Road

Directions and hints

 

Start by going down the road to the Ridgeway Dam gate. Take the uphill path to the right. Follow this and bearing left as the trail runs out. From here you will join a main trail back to the gate, cross the road and take the left hand uphill track which will return you to the start point.

From the car park, go down to the water side and continue in an anticlockwise to the head of the dam.

Continue on the track or for an interesting, but slightly hilly option, as you head back look for a gravel access road on the right. Go up it and through a gate onto another gravel path.

Turn left and go through the bush until you are nearly back to the start where you will see a grassy path leading off to the left. This will take you to the dam wall and car park.

Walk 1.

This is an undulating track, a bit rough in parts but generally easy.

Pleasant bush scenery and glimpses of the river.

The entrance to the walk is on the left as you go into the park. Follow this until you reach North West Bay River and turn left. Continue until you reach the road. Return the same way.

 

Walk 2.

This is only accessible at low water level as there are two river crossings. It is shallow and there are rocks but they are not stepping stones.

Directions and hints

 

 Go to the end of the beach and find the track leading along the coast, follow it until you reach the dog park. There is a marked bush track on the other side, keep going until you see a little bridge which takes you across the valley and back the way you came.

At the top of the rise there is access to Suncoast Drive, cross the road and return via a laneway between beside number 72, then to 29 Tahune Crescent where another lane goes to Seacrest Avenue. At the bottom of Seacrest cross onto a grass area and another lane back to Blackman’s Bay Beach, via Flowerpot Crescent.

Go to the end of Cleve Court and between number 17 and 20 to the shore.

Follow this as far as you like. There are toilets when you meet Tranmere Road. The Foreshore Trail continues along the roadside to Pindos Park.   The track continues for several kilometres, a loop of the park takes 10 minutes. Return the same way. Consider taking a short detour to a beach for intriguing rock formations and pools. Take a right turn onto the road at the end.

 Go down to the creek, turn left and follow the path as far as the fork where a right turn takes you to Summerleas Road. Go right, up the road and take the left turn to Gormley Drive. On the left you will come to a grassy track which goes behind the community garden and dog park to Spring Farm. Go down O’Connors Drive and Spring Farm Road and turn left on the track beside Southern Outlet. When you come to Summerleas Road, cross it and take Whitewater Track back to Kingston Park.

Due to parking woes on Romilly Street we will park at the Waterworks Reserve entrance and walk down the Pipeline to Romilly Street and return, then there are options for Strollers to take a shorter circuit and Ramblers to go anticlockwise around the two dams.

Take the track behind the Mens Shed around to Engelfield Road, go up to the junction and left onto Frosts Road which becomes  Hickmans Rd, go along until you see a sign on the left and a track leading uphill. At the top of the hill, bear right past the trig point and descend quite steeply to a gravel road. Take the right hand track past the house and onwards downhill to Barretta. Keep left and continue through the bush until you meet the corner of Channel Hwy and the tip. Go along the road looking for a sign and left turn up a grassy track back to the Mens Shed.

 

To avoid the hill continue on Frosts Road when it veers left off Hickmans Rd.

 Take the track past the lookouts, keep right, detour via the frog bog. Look for a gravel track going uphill, Summit Loop.

Take the left option at the cairn. When descending take the righthand fork or you will be on a steep fire trail, not suitable for walking. Turn right at the bottom of the hill and return to the start.
