St. Crispins Well Wednesday 26th September 2018

St. Crispins Well Wednesday 26th September 2018

A crisp start to a sunny day. A long walk for our group and only three made it to the actual well. Others enjoyed the scenic level track with views of Cathedral rock and changing vegetation.

The peloton

The breakaway group get an early lead.

The turn off to Snake Plains

First sighting of Cathedral Rock

And it gets better

Storms did some damage to the track

The old pipeline

 And the new(er)

The turn off to an access point to Cathedral Rock.

More pipeline evidence, the noise of rushing water was quite evident.

The turn off to the well (not easily missed...you would think!)

The track was narrow and rocky
.

The well

It seemed a long walk back, we were glad to see the vegetation change and ferns appear.

Domain and Botanical Gardens Wednesday 19th September 2018

Domain and Botanical Gardens Wednesday 19th September 2018
A couple of weeks ago we started this walk but it as too ambitious for the time available, so this week we did the extra bit (and a bit more) and had time for a stroll round the Botanical Gardens. It is their 200 year anniversary and tulip time.

Assembling... 28people?

Past Government House

Walking past our attention was captured by these pine cones/flowers. Full of pollen as some discovered.

Baby plovers in the vegie patch

Some happy walkers

 Onto Queens Domain...

...where we meet back up with Mike who had diverted for coffee!

We passed the old  gunpowder magazine

A small group took off uphill for a more attractive footpath.

The avenue dedicated to soldiers who didn't return from war.

And onto the mountain bike trail.

There is a radio station at the top of the hill, in the shrubbery.

Views of kunanyi Mount Wellington and impending showers.

Watched by Currawongs and Ravens

Met up with a small group who had elected to take the "Joggers Loop" for the descent through Grass Gully.

Into the Gardens, having braved a shower of rain

Waratah

A bit too early for tulips to be fully out!

Lunch spectacular!
