Natone Hill

Natone Hill
last walked 10/10/2018

Early rain had stopped by the time we met in Geilston Bay

Approaching Natone Hill via Sunhaven Avenue

Cheered on my some cheeky tradies

Going clockwise

Before Tianna Road we take a bush track upwards

And downwards

Returning to the circuit track

before descending to sea level again

Clarence Foreshore Trail

Mount Wellington (kunanyi) looks forbidding but still no rain on us

Delightful views across the Derwent River, starting with the cliffs and cemetery at Cornelian Bay

I was distracted by Oystercatchers

Selfs Point oil and gas storage

Nyrstar zinc works

and on our side...

We are nearly...

...back! Yay!

We had 12 Ramblers, lunch at Spencer's

North West Bay River

North West Bay River
Cathedral Rock Track

We met on Betts Road and headed up to the Cathedral Rock Track. Followed the river upstream, occasionally needing to climb above the river level, until we came to a stretch of river where we examined the rocks before returning.

(Marcus continued up to Cathedral Rock, see his photos after the map at the end of the blog)

Turning off onto the Cathedral Rock Track which becomes narrow and stony with ferns and tall trees to enjoy.

Water droplets on the leaves

Glimpses of the river which was running slightly, looking very clear

Mossy rocks

Heading uphill for a section after hopefully taking a lower, flatter option and realising we couldn't progress.

 Debate raged.

A few obstacles, no problem for us!

A welcome break,

Debate about whether to cross the barrier...we did! But Marcus turned off and continued to climb up to Cathedral Rock.

Our destination. The cairns probably show the walkers who have come down from the Pipeline/Wellington Falls Track where to leave the river for the Cathedral Rock connection.

 Finding sandstone with iron nodules.

Photographers at work

A quicker walk back

There were 24 Ramblers. Lunch was at Longley International Hotel
