Sheppards Hill

Sheppards Hill
Coningham

Today's was an interesting new walk, through open forest to see good views. Thank you to Tas the walk designer and leader.

Gathering in Hopwood St, Coningham.

Setting off up the firebreak to find a narrow track into the bush.

Onto the narrow  track that winds through the bush.

We share the track with cyclists but didn't see any today.

Past a dry pond.

A section on a fire trail

Before turning off onto another bush track.

Lolly break, thanks Jo, we needed quite a few today.

The track starts to climb and seems to go on for ever.

Taking it steadily through a forest of Eucalyptus pulchella (white peppermint) with the trunks shining without bark.

Nearly at the top.

We stopped for some discussion about the identity of this bird, others were just glad of the rest.

View of Cathedral Rock in the distance.

We made it! Yay!

The open grassy top of the hill

Taking the fire trail downhill

Turning off to the right

Approaching some bush shelters built of sticks.

A view across to Dennes Point

The Iron Pot is out there, amongst the breakers.

Still going down, quite steeply through a grove of she oaks

Nearly there

We had 23 Ramblers.
At the end of the walk we travelled to Manuka Rd.
Thank you to Bubbles for lunch, (particularly the ice cream) Doug for the barbecue (especially the plum sauce) Robyn and others for salads and Hilda for cherries.
