Manuka Hill or Trial Bay

Manuka Hill or Trial Bay

(Last walked 9th May 2018 and 1st August 2018 respectively)

A choice of a hill or a coast walk today.

Gathering at Kettering before setting off in opposite directions.

Manuka Hill group set off up Manuka Hill Road.

Someone isn't happy that we set off without her (claimed we had departed five minutes ahead of time...as if!)

Feeling better now

It's a long slog but eventually we reach the bush, where the real slog begins

Towards Oyster Cove

Wallaby tracks

and wallaby

Hello Nanny

A variety of birds were spotted on this walk, photos later.

We hear them and catch a glimpse of them fluttering in the leaves but this is the true picture (thanks Raoul, these are wonderful)

We're out of the woods

Down Wilson's Road

Checking on the progress aka gradual deterioration of our favourite Triumph Mayflowers

The view across to the Ferry Terminal, the other group should just be heading along there now.

Meanwhile...on the way to Trial Bay

At the end of the walks we had a look at some local art and history before making our way to the home of Bubbles and Doug for a bit of a feast

Risdon Park

Risdon Park

The "refreshing" start to the day caught many by surprise, it was the same last time we were here. Things were better once we started walking around the dam. Anticlockwise today. No sign of sun so there is a gloomy atmosphere in the photos.

A couple of bird shots
Native Hen (Turbo chook)

And a Flame Robin.

We are approaching a little tributary

Looking back

Starting the first climb

Down the other side

The quarry at the head of the dam

An unusual encounter

We are entering a pine forest

The water level is low

kunanyi Mount Wellington

Madman's Hill? looking up the dam from the finish of our walk.
