The weather forecast was for wind and showers but we had a very pleasant day walking up Snug River from the Esplanade and returning via the river trail.

The beach looked very inviting but the tide was a bit too high for us to make it all the way along.

These fungi were in the churchyard of St Mary's.

Heading up Snug Tiers Rd ...

...and into Taranaki Place.

We had a quick lolly break before heading between the houses to eventually find the river.

After crossing this open space we enter the vegetation close to the river and start up the newly opened section of the track

This was a bit steep and slippery.

There was some debate about these rocks which appeared to have been placed in a levee style arrangement, by man or the river?

We reach our destination. The track peters out and is blocked by a huge flat rock

We return the way we came

This is the wollemi pine planted beside the track and doing well

Here is a tree planted by Marcus and a bench dedicated to Doug Duthoit who was responsible for designing and  planting along here.

Gordon's Hill

 Gordon's Hill

On a lovely sunny morning we met at Montagu Bay with views of kunanyi Mount Wellington. Nearby is the memorial to those who died when the bridge was knocked down in 1975.

The rings symbolise the rebuilding of the bridge.

 

We start off up Montagu Bay Road

Across the bridge we go up the grassy slope beside Rose Bay High School.

And into the bush which covers Gordon's Hill.

This is the first steep bit but not too far to go
