One group set off northwards from Kettering Sports Ground to tackle Manuka Hill, a bigger group set off southwards for Trial Bay.

Up and up on Manuka Road

The turn off, so we can go up and up some more!

It was exhausting...well I was exhausted!

There has been some clearing around this house, two Ramblers visible in the window

Onward past properties and homes.

Goats under a trampoline, but each on its own dog bed.

Gently down through forest and ferns

To Wilson's Road

Past the old car bodies

Nearly at Manuka Road.

Calvert's Hill

We accessed the beach and took a northerly direction to the new steps onto the headland.

Once we were up the steps we followed the coastal path with views across the bay

Decision Point! A new trail has been mowed leading directly up the hill, several of us took this route, others decided to stay on the level and enjoy the views without the altitude. The thought of grass seeds in socks deterred those who wanted to take the longer (but originally planned) track.

It went up...and up...and UP!

But we reached the trig point easily.

Then down beside the fence, watch out for the electric fence. Yes! It is on!
