Chauncey Vale Wednesday 12th September 2018

Chauncey Vale Wednesday 12th September 2018

We found our way to the information and assembly point and set off through pleasant dry bushland.

The Cave Loop was a little harder than anticipated but enjoyed nonetheless.

Quite challenging!

 Some nature

A feature plant was this on, flowering along the path below the caves. Marcus went to some trouble to identify it ...

"When I got home I looked up Winnie Curtis’ flora and decided it more likely was a Boronia, but from her key I couldn’t be sure of the species.  So I took it to the Herbarium today; Matthew confirmed is to be:
Boronia anemonifolia subsp. variabilis. A tongue twister of a scientific name.   It has common names of Sticky or Stinking Boronia  because the crushed leaves smell of ‘turpentine’.

Caves! All good fun.

And beautiful geology.

The way back downhill was marginally easier.

Yay!

Browns Caves Creek
It was very pleasant to finish the walk along the banks of this rocky creek bed.

No one volunteered to give a demonstration of Eve's bath.

Lunch at Pontville was delicious, especially the Mandarine dessert.
