Nierinna Creek
(Previously walked on 17th October 2018)
We started today from Burnaby Drive , but one group did a one way key exchange doh cee doh.
Another walking group was there today, they had arrived earlier and had done a circuit downstream to the ponds so we did the same to avoid getting too crowded.
We set off on our planned walk. The track is mossy and damp (quite wet) at first, as it follows the creek upstream. There is evidence of past use of the creek, the dams, weirs and penstocks controlled the water for irrigation when this was an orchard area (I think)
Water lilies and reflections of trees.
Now we start to climb quite steeply (see the elevation graph at the end of this blog)
The vegetation changes from Sags to Native Cherry, Eucalypts and ferns. No flowers today but some bracket fungus caught Wayne's attention.
There are several bridges as the track goes up and down beside and across the creek, until we reach our goal, the fern glade just short of Lawless Road

Yay!
There was some birdlife on one pond, a lone goose and its reflection and a small gathering of coots skidding about.

We caught up with Hobart Walking Club...having morning tea!
And shortly afterwards saw the others of our party coming down the track from their Lawless Rd starting point.
Climbing gets quite serious and several decide to save their knees and go back with the others.

Moss, ferns, fallen tree trunks and a carpet of leaves.
Marcus joined us as he returned from his walk all the way to the end, the only one to do it all today.
The other walking club still heading uphill, waited for us to pass as we went down.
Wayne pointed out the tree at the highest point on the walk, 190m.asl.
Steeply down.
There are still lots of cars, ours and the Walking Club. They are staying in the bush to eat a packed lunch. We headed for the Vietnamese Restaurant and sat down just as the rain and wind picked up and it became a fairly unpleasant day.

If you thought it felt like a hill...this is the terrain from the fern glade back to the cars, one way.
