Taroona to Shot Tower
Today we covered the coast from Taroona to the Shot Tower, starting in the middle we went north to the High School and then reversed direction and climbed to the Shot Tower.
Taroona beach park
The site of the first European grave in Tasmania, a sailor who died at sea on the way from Calcutta in 1810.
An ore carrier in the estuary
The Melinga Beach huts
some detail...
Some chose to take the high way
Before the return walk
But we all made it and continued through the she oaks.
The sun was catching the Alum Cliffs
Looking across to ?? (It looks like Tranmere but should be Opossum Bay)
More beach huts
The entrance to this end of the Alum Cliffs Track which goes through to Kingston Beach.
We emerge into the grounds of the Shot Tower
The new route includes a steep gully, full of steps, which we avoided except for these two who continued on into Kingston Beach. We turned back...
View of the Iron Pot lighthouse in the far distance

In front of the school, reminiscing and enjoying the views
Before the return walk
There is one tricky section where the path crosses a gravelly bit
A fishy (or whale-like) tree stump as we reach Hinsby Beach, with lots of seaweed and shells

At the end of the beach we climbed the 60+ steps, we were pleased to be able to recover on a thoughtfully placed seat.

I think the locals were a bit grumpy about the relocation of the walking track (It had previously followed the shoreline and involved a steep cliff climb, when the landowner withdrew permission for public access the track was remade inland via the Shot Tower.)

There were many birds, this gully was alive with fluttering and twittering. I managed this photo of a Black Headed Honeyeater.
